When you start looking for a web designer, you will quickly run into two different things being sold to you: a landing page (sometimes called a one-page site) and a full multi-page website. The price difference can be significant — RM 1,300 versus RM 5,000 or more. So which one does your business actually need?
The answer depends on what you want your website to do. Most Malaysian SMEs — especially in trades, services, and F&B — need a landing page. Not because it is the cheaper option, but because it is genuinely the right tool for the job.
What Is a Landing Page?
A landing page is a single-page website where all the information about your business lives on one scrollable page. Visitors arrive, scroll through your services, see your photos and testimonials, and then take action — usually messaging you on WhatsApp or calling.
Everything on a landing page is designed around one goal: get the visitor to contact you.
A typical landing page for a Malaysian SME includes:
- A headline that states what you do and where you operate
- A brief services section
- Photos of your work or premises
- Testimonials from past clients
- Contact details and a prominent WhatsApp button
- A Google Maps embed showing your location
That is enough for most businesses to convert a visitor into an enquiry.
What Is a Full Website?
A full website has multiple pages — usually a Home page, Services page, About Us, Contact, and sometimes a Gallery, FAQ, or Blog. Each page has its own URL and can rank separately in Google search.
Full websites make sense when:
- You have a large number of distinct services that need separate explanation
- You want to rank for multiple different search terms across different pages
- You publish regular content (like blog articles) that supports your SEO
- You have a complex customer journey that requires multiple decision points
The Honest Comparison
| Factor | Landing Page | Full Website |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | RM 800 – RM 2,000 | RM 3,000 – RM 8,000+ |
| Build time | 3 – 5 days | 2 – 6 weeks |
| Best for | Single service, local area, WhatsApp enquiries | Multiple services, content marketing, e-commerce |
| Google ranking | Ranks for primary terms | Ranks for multiple terms across pages |
| Maintenance | Low | Higher — more pages to keep updated |
| Conversion focus | High — everything points to one CTA | Lower — visitors have more paths to take |
Most Malaysian SMEs Do Not Need a Full Website
We say this directly because we have seen business owners spend RM 5,000 to RM 8,000 on a full agency website with seven pages — and then not update it once after launch. Six months later, the "News" section still shows a post from the week they launched, the staff page has people who left the company, and the site is ranking for almost nothing because there is no ongoing content.
A well-built landing page that accurately describes what you do, shows real photos of your work, and has a visible WhatsApp button will out-convert that neglected full website every time.
In our experience, the businesses that benefit most from a full website are those that are already consistently generating business through a landing page and want to grow further — or those with a specific content or SEO strategy in place.
When You Should Choose a Landing Page
Choose a landing page if you can answer yes to most of these:
- Your business does one main thing (e.g. air conditioning service, catering, hardware supply)
- Your clients are in a specific geographic area (e.g. Klang Valley, Johor Bahru)
- Clients typically contact you via WhatsApp or phone, not through an online form
- You do not have the time or inclination to write and maintain blog articles
- You want to be up and running within a week
When You Should Choose a Full Website
Choose a full website if:
- You have 5 or more meaningfully distinct service lines that each need their own explanation
- You are building a content or SEO strategy and plan to publish articles regularly (like this one)
- You sell products or need booking functionality
- You are building a brand that needs a dedicated About page, team profiles, and detailed credentials
- You have the budget and a plan to maintain it
A Note on Growing Into a Full Website
Starting with a landing page does not mean you are locked out of a full website later. Many of our clients start with a landing page to establish their online presence quickly, generate their first leads, and prove that web traffic converts to enquiries. Once that is confirmed, expanding to a full site is a natural next step — and a much easier decision to make with evidence in hand.
